CMS wants input on physician value-based purchasing

By Chelsey Ledue

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will host a Sept. 24 "listening session" to solicit comments on Medicare's confidential feedback reports for physicians and approaches to implementing a value-based payment modifier to the physician fee schedule.

Beginning in 2012, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act requires the Department of Health and Human Services to provide reports that compare patterns of resource use by individual physicians, as part of provisions related to implementing physician value-based purchasing.

The law also requires HHS to apply a payment modifier to the physician fee schedule beginning in 2015.
