Two new toolboxes came to market Tuesday, aiming to help providers manage the sprawling ICD-10 conversion.
3M Health Information Systems introduced its 360 Encompass System, while Contexo unveiled the ICD-10 Preparation Analyzer.

Continuing its stream of ICD-10 wares, 3M's 360 Encompass integrates coding, clinical documentation improvement (CDI), and performance monitoring. With an eye on reducing the coder productivity drop anticipated after the October 1, 2013 ICD-10 compliance deadline, 3M claimed in a prepared statement that 360 Encompass can auto-suggest both codes and CDI prompts at the point of care to help users "achieve documentation, accurate and timely reimbursement, and outcomes data that truly reflects the care provided."
The 360 Encompass software takes 3M's Coding and Reimbursement System as its foundation, which enables coders to use ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS or code in ICD-9 "while viewing the ICD-10 equivalent," the company explained.
Contexo, for its part, unwrapped its ICD-10 preparation Analyzer targeted at billers, coders, physicians and staff "to test the knowledge of the CM and PCS guidelines and identify knowledge gaps."

The Contexo and 3M tools come on the heels of the Centers For Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) continuing to build out its ICD-10 resources by releasing a guide for claims that span the implementation date, preceded by HIPAA 5010 and ICD-10 timeline widgets. Prior to that, CMS contracted with 3M to make coding translation tools accessible to its financial intermediaries, Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs), and carriers.
The market for ICD-10 tools is ripening. Last week, AHIMA released survey findings that indicate an uptick in ICD-10 impact analyses – although about half of respondents cited resource-shortage as a roadblock to actual implementation.
