Albany, N.Y.-based insurer invests another million for docs

By Healthcare Finance Staff

Health plan CDPHP is investing another $1M to boost the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery through the adoption of health information technology for eligible network specialists who care for CDPHP members. The initiative builds upon a more than $10 million investment in the interoperability of clinical data in Albany, N.Y.

"Technology plays an integral part in medical practice transformation and the delivery of efficient and effective healthcare, and CDPHP remains a staunch advocate for the adoption of electronic medical record systems to bring data interoperability to the region," says Bruce D. Nash, MD, senior vice president, medical affairs and chief medical officer, CDPHP. "We see this new initiative as a way to continue to partner with our providers and improve the delivery of care to our members and all residents of the Capital District."

Founded in 1984 by physicians, CDPHP is a nonprofit community health plan.

The new CDPHP program is designed to provide financial assistance for expert consultative services to eligible network practices and aims to achieve the following:

  1. Selection of an electronic health record (where applicable).
  2. Attestation of meaningful use of a certified electronic health record.
  3. Facilitated connection to the Health Information Exchange of New York (HIXNY).

CDPHP has demonstrated a strong commitment to interoperability starting in 2005 with CDPHP incentives for network physicians to adopt electronic medical records, Nash notes. Recognizing the need to connect healthcare providers, CDPHP also has been the lead funding source for HIXNY. More recently CDPHP has assisted many primary care practices with the transformation to patient centered medical homes and the achievement of meaningful use.
