Healthcare supply chain management firm GHX is honoring 50 healthcare provider organizations with its 2011 GHX Best 50 Customer awards in recognition of their work in improving operational performance and reducing costs through supply chain automation.
To select the Best 50, GHX looked across the landscape of more than 3,900 hospitals in the U.S. and Canada currently connected to the GHX electronic trading exchange and identified top performers on a number of key metrics, such as purchasing and invoice volume, exception rates, exchange utilization and trading partner connections. GHX then chose the 50 healthcare organizations that scored highest across all of these categories during the 2011 calendar year.
“Supplies are the second largest expense for hospitals today, and are the fastest growing category,” said Bruce Johnson, GHX president and CEO. “With so much pressure on healthcare organizations to reduce costs while delivering the highest quality patient care, the need to improve efficiency is greater now than ever before.”

“The hospitals working with GHX – especially these in the Best 50 – are implementing new ways to automate their business processes, to standardize and reduce variance where possible and to work together with trading partners in ways that make both their businesses more efficient,” said Johnson. “All of these factors together reduce costs in meaningful ways, with many GHX hospital customers measuring millions of dollars in savings each year. This is real progress in reducing the cost of business in healthcare. In the past two years, organizations in the GHX community have taken over $1.8B in cost out of care.”
The award recipients will be honored at the 2012 GHX Healthcare Supply Chain Summit, which takes place May 7-9, 2012, in Orlando.
