In a new U.S. Employment Outlook report published by Simply Hired, authors say that the healthcare industry leads among all other employment industries in the number of job openings available in September, with nearly one-third of all new job postings relating to the healthcare industry.
According to the report, job openings increased in nearly all industries in September (16 out of 18). The healthcare industry posted 360,151 jobs in September, a 5.4 percent growth from August and a 30.1 percent growth from a year ago, said the report.
Additionally, out of 12 different major metropolitan areas in the country, healthcare companies were among the top five employers with job openings in September, according to the report.
In Atlanta, WellStar Health System and Piedmont Healthcare were third and fifth for job openings; in Boston, Genesis Healthcare was fifth; in Chicago, Advocate Health Care Network was second; in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas Health Resources was first and Baylor Health Care System was second; in Denver, Centura Health, HealthOne, HCA and Eastside Medical Center were the top four, respectively; In Los Angeles, Kaiser Permanente was second; In San Francisco, Kaiser Permanente also made the list at first place and Sutter Health was second; and in Seattle, Providence Health & Services was fifth.
The Simply Hired report follows the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) jobs report for September, which showed that the healthcare industry only added 6,800 new jobs in September, remaining nearly unchanged form August. The latest BLS report also noted that the healthcare industry has only added an average of 19,000 jobs a month in 2013, compared to an average of 27,000 a month in 2012.
