Orlando hospital upgrades charge capture technology

By Richard Pizzi

Orlando's Florida Hospital, billed as the largest and busiest hospital in the United States, has entered into an agreement with ERIS Medical Technologies to implement that company's automated .net charge capture software.

Florida Hospital is part of the Adventist Health System and ranks as the largest provider of healthcare to Medicare beneficiaries in the United States.

“As one of the largest healthcare provider organizations in the country, we continually look for innovative tools to optimize and improve our revenue cycle processes, assure timely and compliant billing procedures and improve the healthcare value equation for our patients,” said Bonnie Bowls, the hospital's senior vice president of revenue management.

ERIS Medical Technologies' erisRx solution allows hospitals to identify and correct non-compliant and missing charges from patient bills. According to Jennifer Wexler, principal of Eris Medical Technologies, erisRx boasts more than 400,000 system algorithms that identify overcharges and undercharges for services rendered to patients.

erisRx will be leveraged by the hospital's Revenue Management Department to ensure correct compliant patient bills, Wexler said.

James English, the hospital's director of revenue management, said the new technology would "help redefine how we approach charge capture."

"This tool will help us become more efficient with our human resources while securing additional returns now being left on the table," he said. "We are excited about our emerging relationship with ERIS and look forward to its smooth integration into our system.”
