Survey analysis: Challenges to ACO formation

Healthcare Finance News readers weighed in on what they think is the biggest challenge in forming accountable care organizations (ACOs).


The majority of respondents (44 percent) indicated that gaining physician support was the biggest challenge in ACO formation.

Cooperation between hospital executives and physicians is a top priority in creating a successful ACO.

Twenty-six percent of respondents chose cost as the greatest barrier.

Eighteen percent of respondents think that integrating IT systems is the biggest challenge, while 13 percent find that establishing evidence-based medicine is the toughest aspect of forming ACOs.
