Federal government seeks help developing ICD-10 quality indicators

By Carl Natale

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is looking for healthcare professionals to help create quality indicators (QIs) based upon ICD-10-CM/PCS code sets.

QIs are measures of health care quality that use hospital inpatient administrative data - such as ICD codes. Since they are currently based on ICD-9 codes, ICD-10-based QIs need to be developed.

The AHRQ posted a request for nominations for members of about 10 workgroups on QI conversion. The federal register lists the criteria for serving on the workgroups, how to submit nominations and what is expected of workgroup members.

Self-nominations are allowed. Deadline is June 29, and decisions will be be made by July 13.
