Both lists rely on answers to a hospital’s Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems surveys.
Exactly 125 hospitals that were recently awarded five stars for patient experience by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services also earned 2015 Outstanding Patient Experience Awards by ratings agency Healthgrades.

Though both lists rely on answers to a hospital’s Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems surveys to determine rankings, Healthgrades used data from 2013 while CMS is updating its rankings quarterly using the most up-to-date HCAHPS results.
To be fair, most of the hospitals on the Healthgrades list earned some kind of star rating from the CMS, which range from one star to five stars, but the 125 listed below earned the highest star rating as well as the recent award from Healthgrades.
