Accenture tapped for $563 million Healthcare.gov contract

Tech giant scores 5-year deal to help improve the online insurance marketplace

Though 2014 saw far fewer issues with Healthcare.gov, the federal government's health insurance exchange, officials are betting big that one of the industry's top firms can fix and improve the service for good.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services said Monday that it tapped tech and consulting giant Accenture to manage the exchange, a five-year deal that's worth $563 million. Accenture had worked on the exchange in 2014, along with UnitedHealth Group’s Optum, to improve the experience after the site's disastrous debut in 2013. The exchange was set up as part of the Affordable Care Act, and is used in states that have not set up their own health insurance exchanges under the law.
