ASP Global has acquired InHome Medical Solutions, a Jacksonville, Florida-based distributor of wholesale medical products serving physicians and home health/hospice providers, for an undisclosed amount, ASP announced Tuesday.

ASP Global, an entity involved in the sourcing of hospital medical supplies, works with healthcare systems -- hospitals, Integrated Delivery Networks, and large group practices -- to build and integrate global sourcing models into its hospital supply chains. The company claims that its sourcing initiatives save clients 30 percent or more on various consumable medical products.

Lorne Tritt, CEO of ASP Global, said the company's acquisition of InHome "expands our distribution capabilities" and advances the organization's mission of "supporting the full continuum of care in any setting: hospitals, IDNs, home health, hospice and group practices."

According to the Congressional Budget Office, Medicare hospice and home health reimbursement is expected to reach $53 billion by 2020. That's an increase of more than 60 percent from 2011.

Todd LaVelle, CEO of InHome, said an increasing amount of care is being pushed out of the hospital and into ambulatory settings, including hospice and home health. "Yet too many home care and hospice nurses are still picking up supplies at some centralized location, which is not where their patients are located," he said.

Through the new partnership, LaVelle said providers will be able to obtain medical products directly at the point of care.

LaVelle will be staying on to run the business unit, which will be the non-acute division of ASP Global. InHome utilizes five U.S. distribution centers to provide one to two-day delivery to 96 percent of the country. Its technology platform allows clinicians to order and track supplies, which are delivered to where they are needed.
