Benefitfocus' new service targets small companies

By Healthcare Finance Staff

Small employers dealing with the myriad complications of employee healthcare programs might be able to find some relief in eEnrollmentXpress, a new benefit enrollment offering from Benefitfocus.

The company rolled out its new service last month, targeting employers with fewer than 50 employees, and noted that five Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans have already signed on.

“The owner of a small company is often the person managing employee benefit programs, and he needs a straightforward way to do this,” said Nancy Sansom, vice president of product management at Benefitfocus, in a press release.

“For example, we found that it is a huge help to be able to view the status of all employees immediately,” she said. “As a result, we changed the design of the home page so that the business owner sees a list of his employees with important status information as soon as he logs into the system.”

The system will be implemented by Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, BlueChoice HealthPlan, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska. Overall, Benefitfocus supports more than 20 Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans.

According to Benefitfocus, eEnrollmentXpress offers 14 enrollment and eligibility reports. In addition, it enables group administrators, brokers, employees and health plan representatives to manage enrollment transactions, including new hires, open enrollment and renewal, employee terminations, COBRA enrollment, rehires, demographic changes, primary care provider changes, Medicare, other insurance, prior insurance and salary changes.
