California health system to boost business work

Community Medical Centers, a 727-bed not-for-profit health system in California's San Joaquin Valley, plans to streamline its business processes with new technology.

St. Paul, Minn-based Lawson Software announced at the Healthcare Finance Management Association's annual conference in Las Vegas that Community Medical Centers had licensed Lawson Smart Office and the Lawson S3 Human Capital Management, Enterprise Financial Management, Supply Chain Management and Business Intelligence suites.

Today, Community Medical Centers relies on multiple business applications to meet its administrative needs across departments. As part of its strategic plan, the organization wanted to consolidate disparate software systems.

"We were impressed with how Lawson designs its applications with the specific needs of healthcare providers in mind," said Tim Brown, director of business systems, Community Medical Centers. "Unlike the other vendors that required us to develop workarounds to make their software fit our specific needs, Lawson provides the features and capabilities we need to help us run an efficient healthcare organization."

Community Medical Centers will be among the first Lawson customers to implement Lawson Smart Office. Lawson executives describe the technology as "an intuitive, personalized information workplace that offers new collaboration features, integration of Microsoft Office user productivity tools and optional workflow and business intelligence capabilities."

Community Medical Centers will also deploy Lawson Performance Management for Healthcare to help manage employee performance evaluations and more easily comply with requirements mandated by the Joint Commission. Currently, Community Medical Centers relies on a manual process to conduct reviews.

Community Medical Centers operates three acute care hospitals, including the Community Regional Medical Center, Clovis Community Medical Center and Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital. The health system, which has 6,000 employees, also serves patients through several long-term care and outpatient centers.
