California healthcare company inks ITO contract

By Molly Merrill

Allergan, a multi-specialty healthcare firm, has just signed a $130 million contract that will provide the company with information technology outsourcing services as it continues to expand.

The seven-year contract stipulates that Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. will supply Allergan with comprehensive infrastructure services, including data center operations, network monitoring and management, and end-user support services.

Allergan is a global, $3 billion company specializing in portfolios in eye care, neurosciences, medical dermatology, medical aesthetics, obesity intervention and urologics.

The company employs more than 7,500 people worldwide and is represented in over 100 countries.

ACS will implement a platform that utilizes a network connection to store important data online, provide additional data security, and more reliably restore backup data for Allergan. The solution replicates backup data directly to the disaster recovery site, thereby reducing business recovery time and incidence of data loss by eliminating off-site data handling.

Ann Vezina, group president of ACS Commercial Solutions, says that the relationship will work to benefit both partners. She said that it will strengthen ACS' presence in the pharmaceutical industry and at the same time, will allow Allergan to "focus on its global core business operations as the company grows and help meet Allergan's need for advanced technological capabilities".

Sue-Jean Lin, Allergan's chief information officer, agrees and noted that, "ACS has the technology and expertise to meet our growth needs, and their dedication to quality service makes them a strong cultural fit as well."

"With our many innovative products, we operate in a wide range of global, high-growth markets," Lin added. "We needed a strategic partner who could not only support our market-leading positions, but help us meet the challenges of continued expansion."
