CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield is taking its outreach about open enrollment directly to where the people are at sporting, entertainment and community events in and outside the Beltway.
The mobile unit is equipped to offer information about coverage options under the Affordable Care Act in 2014, and the 30-foot long trailer scheduled to travel to 17 concerts, marathons and charitable walks and sports events in the Baltimore and Washington areas by mid-January.
CareFirst offers coverage in Maryland, the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia, and current members and prospective customers will be able to speak directly with company representatives in the unit about health plans, health insurance exchanges and other questions related to the ACA, as some seek coverage for the first time or want to update what they have.
"The mobile unit is a new way for us to reach out to and interact with many of the communities we serve and provide individuals with the information they need," said Rita Costello, CareFirst's senior vice president of strategic marketing, in a news release.
Demonstrating that, the mobile unit has worked at the recent Washington Nationals vs. Miami Marlins baseball game at Nationals Park. The next stop is Charm City, at the Baltimore Orioles vs. Boston baseball game later this week. Other stops will include Baltimore Ravens football games, more Baltimore Orioles baseball games, D.C. United soccer games and the Baltimore Running Festival.
The mobile unit is part of CareFirst's open enrollment marketing campaign, which includes a mix of display and broadcast advertising in Maryland and the Washington area, as well as advertising online and on mobile devices through social networking and mobile apps.
