Concerro, Premier healthcare alliance sign shift management contract

By Eric Wicklund

The San Diego company, formerly known as BidShift, announced Thursday that its shift management technology will be used by the Premier healthcare alliance, a San Diego-based network of more than 2,100 hospitals and 53,000 other healthcare sites.

The partnership allows Premier members to make use of Concerro's ShiftSelect, ShiftConnect, ShiftRewards, StaffReach, VMShift and ConcerroConsult products.

"In these challenging economic times, hospitals need to rapidly reduce and avoid costs, without putting at risk patients, revenues or employee satisfaction," said Concerro CEO and President Graham Barnes in a press release. "We believe the combination of Concerro and Premier's new LaborConnect program will help them do just that."

Premier's LaborConnect program is described by Premier officials as "a comprehensive, integrated product and service offering aimed at addressing the pressing labor challenge facing healthcare organizations today."

"With Concerro's online Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, LaborConnect subscribers will have decisive advantages in the ongoing struggle to contain labor costs, which comprise some 60 percent of most nonprofit hospitals' total operating costs," said Susan DeVore, Premier's chief operating officer. "This comprehensive solution will allow for effective costs savings in labor while at the same time improving overall employee satisfaction."

Concerro's software is used by healthcare providers to create an online scheduling system, allowing employees to self-schedule and request open shifts and administrators to fill calendars and create incentive programs to fill problematic shift openings. The company's clients include the Catholic Health system, CHRISTUS Health, Kaiser Permanente, Kindred Healthcare and Tenet Healthcare.
