Connecticut fines university hospital for infractions

By Richard Pizzi

The Connecticut Department of Public Health has imposed an $8,000 fine on Yale-New Haven Hospital for infractions state inspectors found during unannounced visits.

The state's Department of Public Health said nurses and other caregivers failed to check patients for bedsores, administered incorrect dosages of medicine and held a patient against her will, among other violations.

Public health officials made the unannounced visits from August 2007 to March 2008.

Saying they take the health department's findings seriously, hospital officials have signed an agreement with the state to correct the problems. The Department of Public Health approved the deal earlier this week.
