Emdeon Business Services has bolstered its healthcare portfolio with the purchase of IXT Solutions, a provider of integrated patient billing and payment solutions.
Both companies are based in Nashville, Tenn. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
An independent company jointly owned by The HLTH Corp. and General Atlantic LLC, Emdeon provides revenue cycle management and clinical communication solutions that enable payers, providers and patients to improve healthcare business processes. The acquisition of IXT Solutions enables the company to add IXT's online patient billing, eCashiering, return mail management and lockbox services to its existing suite of services.
"The addition of IXT demonstrates Emdeon's commitment to delivering industry leading revenue cycle management solutions for our provider customers," said George Lazenby, Emdeon's CEO. "Providers are facing significant challenges today as consumerism continues to increase and more of their receivables are due from the patient. IXT has developed the industry's most comprehensive and innovative solutions for managing patient receivables."
The deal caps a busy few months for Emdeon. Since the end of August, the company has renewed its EDI Services agreement with Aetna, launched 16 new Delta Dental payers for insurance eligibility and benefits verification, and achieved electronic health network (EHN) certification through the Maryland Health Care Commission.
"The combination of our two companies will create a powerful suite of services to address the challenges in patient collections," added Lyle Beasley, chairman and CEO of IXT Solutions. "We are truly excited about the increased capital and resources that Emdeon brings to the table as well as the future opportunities that partnership will provide our customers and the healthcare industry as a whole."
IXT Solutions, which was launched in April of 2001, recently signed contracts with Health Management Associates, Harvard Physicians and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
