Georgia hospital selects benchmarking tool to maximize space productivity

By Richard Pizzi

Georgia Hospital Health Services, a subsidiary of the Georgia Hospital Association, has selected a Web-based benchmarking tool to help its member hospitals analyze how effectively they use space in key revenue generating areas.

GHHS is using the HealthSpace Advisor, a tool available on a subscription basis from Falls Church, Va.-based vendor CSC, to evaluate space productivity by analyzing departmental space allocation in relation to process improvements, financial indicators and staffing measures.

"The comprehensive nature of HealthSpace Advisor makes it a valuable cost-saving tool for hospitals," said Glenn Pearson, executive vice president of the GHA. "It will help member hospitals make significant improvements in efficiency that result in enhanced focus on patient care."

According to Deward Watts, president of CSC's healthcare group, the application provides hospital administrators with information on enhancing operational efficiency, optimizing departmental revenue and improving quality of care.

"Maximizing the performance and value of new technologies requires hospital administrators to re-examine their use of space periodically," Watts said. "HealthSpace Advisor provides hospitals with the most comprehensive space productivity dashboard by simultaneously examining key performance indicators, including the two highest cost elements – people and space."

Watts said member hospitals would have round-the-clock access to a private online community, as well as CSC clinical experts in the specialty areas of Emergency Department, Imaging/Radiology, Operating Room/Recovery Room and Intensive Care.

GHHS hospitals will also receive quarterly customized benchmarking reports.

GHHS was founded in 1989 for the purpose of partnering with companies to provide products and services at a discounted rate or with added benefits to its member institutions.
