HCA Healthcare has named Ashley Johnson chief financial officer of HCA's American Group, which includes 85 hospitals. She will take the helm on October 1, replacing longtime American Group CFO Rick Shallcross, who is retiring, the system announced Tuesday.
Johnson's 21-year tenure at HCA has included roles such as chief financial officer for HCA's Capital Division with responsibility for financial operations and reporting for the division's 18 hospital campuses located in Indiana, Kentucky, New Hampshire and Virginia. She has also served as CFO for several HCA hospitals including Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center in Denver, Colorado; Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida; and Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, Florida.

Johnson is a certified public accountant and holds bachelors' degrees in accounting and management from the University of Central Florida, HCA said.
"We're fortunate to have many strong financial leaders within HCA like Ashley who has successfully led the financial operations of multiple HCA hospitals and markets," said Jon Foster, president of HCA's American Group. "The depth and breadth of her experience uniquely qualifies her and will serve her well in this position."
Rick Shallcross started his 25 years with the company as CFO of Rose Healthcare System in Denver. He moved on to a position as Utah Division CFO in 1996 and then Continental Division CFO in 1997. He has served as a group CFO for HCA since 2001.
"We are very thankful to Rick for his dedicated service to HCA, and we appreciate his many contributions to our financial success and growth over his time with the company," said Foster. "He has been a longtime colleague and friend, and we wish him all the best in retirement."
HCA Healthcare's system is comprised of 177 hospitals and 119 freestanding surgery centers in 20 states and the United Kingdom.
