Healthcare adds 29K jobs in November, led by ambulatory care

Healthcare companies have created more than 261,000 jobs this year.

Healthcare hiring continued to grow in November 2014, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, with businesses across the sector adding nearly 29,000 jobs in the month.

Healthcare’s total workforce hit 14.86 million in November, compared to 14.83 million in October and 14.6 million in November 2013. In the past 12 months, healthcare companies have created more than 261,000 jobs, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Ambulatory care carried most of the hiring in November, adding an additional 24,300 jobs in November, while physicians offices added 6,600 jobs. Hospitals also grew their workforce, adding 4,300 jobs in the month.

Only nursing care facilities shed jobs in the month, with the workforce shrinking by about 1,300 positions.

In total, the U.S. economy added 321,000 jobs in November.
