HMO developer partners with Tampa dental plan to launch pilot HMO

By Molly Merrill

Physicians Healthcare Management Group, Inc., or Phyhealth, a developer of health maintenance organizations, has signed an agreement with Argus Dental, based in Tampa, Fla., to provide dental services for a Pilot HMO, which will be launched in the latter half of 2008.

Phyhealth develops community-based HMOs that are owned and operated in partnership with the participating physicians. Its health plans are designed to deliver high-quality affordable healthcare by enabling physicians to assume end-to-end management of healthcare for their patients.

The Phyhealth model is designed to empower physicians to provide preventive healthcare and proactively manage their patients' general health by aligning incentives among the HMO, physician and patient.

"In keeping with our mandate to offer the highest quality, yet affordable healthcare to our members as we prepare to roll out our first Pilot HMO in the state of Florida, we are pleased to announce that Argus Dental has signed on as a provider of dental services," said Robert Trinka, chairman and chief executive officer of Phyhealth. "Argus' network consists of (more than) 1,500 dental providers throughout Florida that have been credentialed according to the standards set forth by the National Committee for Quality Assurance and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Argus' stringent screening process helps ensure that only the best dentists in the business are accepted into the plan. We are confident that members signing up for our Pilot HMO will receive the best care available to address their dental needs."

Phyhealth intends to offer additional value-added products and services in cooperation with physicians, including medical malpractice insurance, local care facilities and wellness programs, as well as information technologies such as secure electronic medical records.

"Phyhealth shares our commitment to excellence and together we will provide comprehensive, yet affordable dental care in a community-based setting. A personalized, patient-centric approach to healthcare is beneficial and comforting to patients and we look forward to joining forces with Phyhealth as it brings its unique brand of healthcare to the Florida marketplace later this year," said Nicholas Kavouklis, president and CEO of Argus Dental.

Licensed by the Department of Insurance as a pre-paid limited health services organization, Argus offers complete and comprehensive dental benefits to individuals and groups of all sizes.
