Experts on the looming switch to ICD-10 coding will get their time on The Hill next week, when a federal subcommittee meets to gauge how well healthcare providers are prepared for the Oct. 1 deadline.

The Energy & Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Health will hold the public forum at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11. The subcommittee has been working for several months with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to ensure the deadline is successfully met.

“This hearing is an important opportunity to hear about the state of preparedness of all those involved and ensure that we are continuing to move forward in health care technology,” Subcommittee Chairman Joe Pitts, R-PA said in a statement.

The subcommittee has not released the list of speakers.

The hearing, “Examining ICD-10 Implementation,” will look at the coding system to be used by healthcare providers for reimbursement and other functions. Its implementation was postponed last year.
