NorthShore Skokie Hospital plans to eliminate 150 full-time jobs, or nearly 14 percent of its workforce, in the next two months.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the decision to eliminate the positions of seven senior executives - including hospital chief executive officer Jim Frankenbach - as well as secretaries, clerical support and business office staff, will not affect medical staff.
"It has no impact on clinical activities and it involves redundant back office administrative services," said Jeffrey Hillebrand, chief operating officer of NorthShore University HealthSystem. "None of the affected employees provide direct, hands-on care to patients."
Earlier this month, NorthShore completed its purchase of Skokie Hospital, formerly known as Rush North Shore Medical Center. NorthShore also operates hospitals in Evanston, Glenview and Highland Park, Ill.
NorthShore officials said the integration of Skokie Hospital into its system required a "staffing assessment and business review" of the 1,100 employees at the facility.
