Indiana health system bolsters A/R services

By Richard Pizzi

St. Mary's Health System of America, based in Evansville, Ind., has signed a new technology and services agreement that is intended to help improve its accounts receivable management.

The health system will use the services of Conshohocken, Pa.-based Apollo Health Street to streamline the revenue cycle and improve the aging of third-party accounts receivable. The partnership, spanning 12 months, includes evaluating an estimated 3,200 claims per month.

"Our process-driven staff ensures the best use of tools and effective and comprehensive follow-up of third party accounts," said Bill Colgan, executive vice president of hospital services for Apollo. "Our goal at St. Mary's is to accelerate cash recoveries, improve the appeals process and gain feedback and correct internal issues that are causing delays in payment."

According to Colgan, this is not only a cost-saving process, but also a cash improvement plan that will guarantee uninterrupted high-quality accounts receivable management.

"We appreciate Apollo's use of proprietary and best-of-breed technology to ensure delivery of the tailored results that will improve our bottom line," said Barbara Clayton, vice president of revenue cycle and managed care at St. Mary's.

St. Mary's is a member of Ascension Health and serves communities in Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky. The health system has a medical staff of more than 805 physicians.
