Almost 50 million Americans were uninsured as of 2011 and, what's more, a projected 71 million are expected to purchase insurance between now and 2018 via the new health insurance exchanges.
A little more than one week since the exchanges or marketplaces opened, it is, of course, still very early into this new world and, while the chaos rolls on and the sky clears regardless of one's political viewpoint, data offers a few indications of its contours.
So, what shape might that landscape ultimately take? How will people actually buy insurance via an HIX? And what are the key differences between private and public exchanges?
