Ingenix, ACS join forces to help states with Medicaid services

By Healthcare Finance Staff

Two healthcare IT giants have announced a strategic alliance to help state governments with their Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS).

Ingenix, based in Eden Prairie, Minn. is joining forces with Dallas-based Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. to supply decision support solutions for ACS' state MMIS initiatives. ACS will license its technology portfolio to Ingenix, which in turn will offer decision support and consulting services and software applications to ACS' clients.

"This partnership allows us to enhance our current systems and deliver better service to our Medicaid clients," said Christopher T. Deelsnyder, ACS' senior vice president and managing director of Government Healthcare Solutions. "Combining Ingenix's innovative decision support capabilities with ACS' technologies strengthens our ability to streamline and improve the delivery of healthcare in Medicaid programs."

Together, the two companies will help state health administrators assess the status of their Medicaid programs, analyze healthcare policies, measure program performance and monitor budget trends.

ACS processes more than 550 million Medicaid healthcare claims each year, representing close to $50 billion in provider payments, and serves 28 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Department of Labor with drug expenditures totaling more than $13 billion.

Ingenix, an 11-year-old, wholly owned subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group, has more than 250,000 clients in the healthcare domain, including more than 1,500 insurance companies and health plans, more than 200,000 physicians and healthcare providers and more than 3,500 hospitals.

Among the company's products is Impact Pro for Care Management, a predictive modeling platform for helping state Medicaid programs identify and manage people with chronic and acute healthcare conditions. Ingenix and ACS had partnered previously to assist the State of Mississippi's Division of Medicaid in implementing Impact Pro for Care Management.

"This relationship brings together an unparalleled set of data, technology and experience that will increase efficiency, reduce costs and improve care outcomes for Medicaid recipients and the state governments that manage their health services," said Andy Slavitt, Ingenix' CEO. "Together, we will offer a unique set of solutions that will help us grow our respective business by giving our clients a suite of services that meet their expectations."
