Centura Health will see its longest tenured CEO, Gary S. Campbell, step down Sept. 1, the company announced Monday.
Campell is slated to assume a new executive leadership position within Centura, which will be "focused on providing leadership in the areas that he has extreme passion for – leadership development and optimizing health value."
Peter D. Banko, Centura's current president and chief operating officer, will step into the roles of president and chief executive officer when Campell exits. Banko has served in his current roles for roughly a year.

While he served as CEO, Centura said Campbell helped grow the health network in Colorado and western Kansas from 11 hospitals to 17. He also helped expand their integrated network, Colorado Health Neighborhoods, to over 4,000 providers and established 19 Neighborhood Health Centers. Under his leadership, Centura's annual revenue rose from $1.8 billion to more than $3.5 billion.
"Centura Health has been truly blessed with Gary's visionary leadership," said Patricia Webb, chair, Centura Health Governing Board. "His faithful commitment to our ministry and efforts to transform the delivery of health care have allowed us to optimize health value across our region and meet the needs of consumers."
