Managing with metrics, boosting quality

By Chelsey Ledue

Healthcare finance executives may be increasingly relying on metrics to improve their organizations' quality and efficiency during the economic downturn.

The Healthcare Financial Management Association's ANI 2009 conference has a session focused on that very topic, which will help finance leaders use data to better manage their institutions.

ANI educational session E10, titled "Metrics for managing: quality, data and the continuum of care" is intended to help explain the healthcare industry trends that are driving changes.

The goal of the session - slated for 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, is to identify the crucial first steps healthcare finance leaders can take to engage stakeholders and what methods to employ to best engender trust.

Greg Nelson, senior manager at the Baptist Leadership Institute and David C. Hammer, vice president of revenue cycle solutions at McKesson Provider Technologies will teach session attendees to assess the current direction of their organizations and explain how metrics can best be used to adjust a course of action, apply principles of a performance management data strategy, and create a framework for accountability.

HFMA says the session will most benefit reimbursement managers, revenue cycle leaders, quality managers and PFS executives.
