Health IT company McKesson and software provider Change Healthcare Holdings have cleared an antitrust hurdle towards creating a new company.

The Department of Justice has closed its review and terminated the waiting period under antitrust amendments in the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976. The termination of the waiting period satisfies one of the conditions of the proposed transaction, McKesson said.

Subject to other closing conditions, the acquisition is expected to close in the first half of calendar year 2017.

McKesson and Change Healthcare announced in June the creation of a new healthcare IT company that will be about 70 percent owned by McKesson.
