Miami-area clinic owner charged in $23M Medicare fraud scheme

A Miami-area HIV infusion clinic owner and operator has been charged for her alleged participation in a $23 million HIV infusion Medicare fraud scheme.

An indictment charges Flor Crisologo with one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States, cause the submission of false claims to the Medicare program and pay healthcare kickbacks; one count of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud; and three counts of submitting false claims to the Medicare program. Crisologo is also charged with one count of conspiracy to launder the proceeds of her alleged crimes and four counts of money laundering.

According to the indictment, Crisologo was the owner and operator of J & F Community Medical Center, Inc. She allegedly submitted about $23 million in false and fraudulent claims to the Medicare program for HIV injection and infusion services supposedly provided through J & F.

According to the indictment, Crisologo and others paid kickbacks to Medicare beneficiaries in exchange for claiming they received legitimate services at the clinic.

According to the indictment, Crisologo laundered the proceeds of the fraudulent Medicare claims by transferring thousands of dollars to two shell corporations that she owned and controlled, ABC Med Way, Inc., and the MSG Investment and Services Corp.

The indictment seeks forfeiture of assets held by the defendant and jail time.
