Misys launches EHR grant program

By Healthcare Finance Staff

The Misys Center for Community Health Leadership is now accepting applications from communities for its grant program through the end of the year.

Launched this past June by Misys Healthcare Systems, the Misys Center was designed to help communities adapt to the use of electronic health records (EHRs). Regional healthcare organizations, including hospitals, physician offices and home care agencies, interested in sharing clinical data for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes are encouraged to submit applications.

"National healthcare IT adoption is an achievable goal, but one that must begin on a local level," says Dallas Olson Jr., executive director of the center, in a press release. "This requires that local healthcare organizations are enabled with all of the appropriate resources to make the goal of community-wide data sharing a reality through EHRs and other solutions."

In addition to pledging $10 million in healthcare IT software to the grant recipients, the Misys Center has received support from Intel and other partners, who will help participants in the installation, training and operation of new technologies.

"The Misys Center recognizes that simply providing technology to local communities is not going to solve the critical issues that surround healthcare IT adoption," said Olson. "Through this grant program, we are also opening up an educational discussion based on Misys' 27 years in the healthcare industry and giving local leaders the opportunity to expand their involvement in developing a truly interconnected healthcare community."

Successful applicants must demonstrate a commitment to sharing data between medical professionals in hospitals, physician offices and home care agencies for the purpose of delivering therapeutic and diagnostic care. The companies must be willing to track pre- and post-implementation data for the purposes of ROI case development and to work with Misys and members of the media to share the results of implementing Misys' EMR software.
