NaviNet debuts two new products for health plans

By Eric Wicklund

NaviNet has launched two new online solutions designed to help health plans improve their relationship with providers.

The Cambridge, Mass.-based real-time healthcare communications network, formerly known as NaviMedix, debuted NaviNet Sponsor and NaviNet Enterprise at last week’s AHIP Institute 2009 in San Diego. The two new solutions are designed to allow health plans of all sizes to implement a provider Web portal with the necessary tools, transactions, services and access to more than 750,000 providers in the NaviNet Provider Network.

"NaviNet Sponsor and NaviNet Enterprise provide health plans of all types with the opportunity to roll out comprehensive and innovative provider Web portals that fit their current needs and budgets, yet are flexible enough to address future needs," said Brad Waugh, president and CEO of NaviNet, in a press release announcing the two new solutions. "NaviNet helps health plans solve real business problems with a unique combination of innovative technology, comprehensive knowledge of provider-payer work flows, decades of experience in healthcare communications and access to the largest electronically enabled provider network in the country."

NaviNet Sponsor is designed as a starter solution, allowing health plans to meet basic provider needs, including eligibility and benefits inquiry and claim status inquiry, then add other features at their own pace. NaviNet Enterprise allows health plans to create their own offerings or leverage out-of-the-box transactions.
The Amerihealth Mercy Family of Companies, a Philadelphia-based collection of health plans, pharmacy management, care management and behavioral health programs serving 6.5 million members in 14 states, implemented NaviNet earlier this year.

"In partnership with NaviNet, we swiftly implemented a new NaviNet provider Web portal across six plans in five states. Within a few short months, almost 60 percent of our provider network had already begun communicating with us via NaviNet," said Ed Malinowski, associate vice president of solutions development, for AmeriHealth. "NaviNet's expertise and experience in payer-provider communications were critical in helping us to most effectively develop and deploy our NaviNet Web portal, promote its availability and benefits to our provider network and surpass our ROI goals."

According to NaviNet officials, the company’s solution meets President Barack Obama's push for preventive care and electronic medical records by putting information in the hands of providers at the point of care. Linking clinical information delivery to a routine office function alerts providers to gaps in recommended care, allowing providers to take action with the patient.
