NCO announces new executive, acquisition and RCM offering

By Eric Wicklund

A manager of patient receivables for more than 2,000 healthcare providers nationwide is expanding its size and scope with an acquisition, a new hire and the launch of a full-fledged revenue cycle management platform.

The NCO Group, a Horsham, Pa.-based business process outsourcing company, announced Monday that it is rolling out an end-to-end RCM solution, expanding its platform to include “all clinical and administrative functions that contribute to the capture, management and collection of net patient revenues.”

The solution, company officials said, will focus on five areas: consulting and assessment services, patient access services (including scheduling, registration, third-party eligibility, insurance verification and billing estimates), health information management (including clinical documentation, coding and transcription), accounts receivables management (including claims management, remittance and collection services) and customer service and quality assurance (including patient and physician satisfaction programs).

“The opportunity to dramatically expand our service offering into a comprehensive RCM solution allows us to best meet our clients' needs in an increasingly complex and competitive marketplace,” said Michael J. Barrist, NCO’s chairman and CEO. “NCO's RCM offering blends people, processes and technology to deliver sustainable results whether the need is a short-term customized project or long-term revenue cycle outsourcing.”

To help foster this new business direction, NCO also announced on Monday the acquisition of Health BluePrints, Inc., a Plano-Texas-based developer of revenue cycle solutions to healthcare providers, and the appointment of Jeff McQuillan, a 30-year healthcare IT veteran and co-founder of eWebHealth, as vice president of health information management solutions and services.

“Healthcare providers are looking for solutions to increase net cash, achieve revenue cycle performance improvement, enhance operational efficiency and improve overall patient and physician satisfaction,” said MaryAnne Pace, co-founder of HBPI, who will lead NCO’s RCM consulting practice with fellow HBPI co-founder Katrina Tompkins. “We are very excited to be joining NCO. We truly believe that the combination of our proprietary RCM assessment models and tools with the largest and most dynamic operating platform in the healthcare industry will afford new and existing clients the opportunity to rapidly assess their needs and execute on opportunities.”
