New Hampshire hospital expands automated billing system

By Healthcare Finance Staff

The Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Manchester, N.H., plans to roll out its existing automated billing system to some 150 specialty providers with practices in southern New Hampshire.

With the deployment of Practice Plus Edition, from Boston-based MedAptus, the hospital hopes to mitigate any potential  professional revenue loss, compliance overhead and lack of billing process transparency.

"Given the positive impact of MedAptus based on only a subset of our clinicians, we expect the next phases of deployment – adding more specialists, incorporating additional hospital interfaces and finally, roll-out across the primary care providers – to yield significant benefits, further optimizing our revenue cycle,” said Mary Kay Boudewyns, vice president for revenue management at Dartmouth-Hitchcock.

Working with MedAptus since 2007, Dartmouth Hitchcock has deployed a pilot version of Professional Intelligent Charge Capture. According to a recent press release, providers in many specialties have adopted the mobile and Web-enabled versions of Practice Plus Edition to support point-of-care coding of office encounters. Shortly after go-live, other providers started using MedAptus to assist in the capture of often missed hospital services.

Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is New Hampshire's only academic medical center. The Dartmouth Hitchcock health system hosts a family of more than 900 affiliated primary and specialty care physicians located throughout the state and Vermont.
