The new Western Maryland Regional Medical Center officially opened its doors in late November.
The Cumberland, Md., facility replaces two older hospitals in the western part of the state.
The $268 million state-of-the-art facility has 275 beds and covers 585,000 square feet of interior space.
The health system staff at Cumberland's Braddock Hospital campus moved patients to the new Medical Center with a team of 30 ambulances. In total, 154 patients (92 from Braddock and 62 from Memorial Hospital) were transferred to Western Maryland Regional. WMHS President & CEO Barry Ronan said the move was very carefully planned and completed well ahead of schedule.
Ronan said the new Regional Medical Center enables the Western Maryland Health System to continue to provide a level of care that patients once had to travel to Baltimore, Washington D.C., or Pittsburgh to receive.
