The state of New Jersey has awarded Unisys with a contract extension that continues the technology company's role as the state's Medicaid fiscal agent and Medicaid Management Information System provider.
Blue Bell, Penn.-based Unisys is responsible for providing service for more than a million New Jersey Medicaid recipients and processing more than $7 billion in annual benefit payments.
The base three-year contract is valued at $126 million and includes options for two additional years, exercisable at the discretion of the state, as well as project enhancements, bringing the potential value of the contract to $212 million if all options are exercised.
Unisys has been New Jersey's Medicaid fiscal agent since 1989. The company is responsible for processing and paying more than 117 million medical and pharmaceutical claims annually.
Unisys also processes healthcare claims for New Jersey's General Assistance Program, which provides welfare assistance for residents without children; the Pharmacy Assistance for the Aged and Disabled; and the Senior Gold Prescription Discount Program, a state senior prescription program.
The company also operates the state's Medicaid provider call center for provider inquiries and the Medical Exception Pharmacy Call Center for clinical pharmaceutical benefit reviews.
