New workflow technology aimed at boosting financial clearance at hospitals

By Richard Pizzi

MedeAnalytics, a provider of healthcare performance management technology, has launched a new Patient Access Services solution.

Unveiled at the Healthcare Financial Management Association's Fall Revenue Cycle Strategies Conference Thursday in Chicago, the Web-based workflow application provides real-time intelligence during the patient registration process.

According to MedeAnalytics CEO Mike Gallagher, PAS is integrated with key hospital information systems that include patient payment estimation, charity care screening, address validation, risk segmentation and insurance eligibility verification capabilities, compiling that data into one interface designed for front-end staff.

The Emeryville, Calif.-based vendor is also touting the technology's ability to leverage a variety of third-party data sources and predictive modeling techniques to automatically segment patients prior to service and prompt registrars for appropriate action using customized business rules and logic.

"Our hospital clients are focused on collecting patient payments and fixing registration problems early in the revenue cycle, prior to patient discharge," Gallagher said. "PAS provides one integrated solution to manage the entire financial clearance process."

The HFMA Revenue Cycle Strategies conference draws revenue cycle and PFS executives from healthcare organizations, as well as CFOs and other financial executives who participate in revenue cycle strategic planning – an obvious audience for MedeAnalytics' new technology.

Gallagher said healthcare providers face a wide variety of challenges in the patient access area, including fragmented IT systems, manual paperwork and high staff turnover. He said the PAS solution was introduced to help "integrate meaningful analytics and business intelligence into the front-end workflow."

MedeAnalytics provides information technology to healthcare providers focusing on revenue cycle, patient access, clinical operations, staff productivity, regulatory compliance, finance and accounting and enterprise performance management. The company also offers software solutions for healthcare payers.
