New York health system partners with employers to treat 'at-risk' workers

By Richard Pizzi

The Bon Secours Charity Health System, a three-hospital health system based in Suffern, N.Y., intends to partner its New York hospitals with area employers to help identify specific employee health risks.

With the assistance of the Aegis Health Group, the program Bon Secours is developing is designed to match at-risk employees with appropriate early detection, prevention and education initiatives offered by the medical centers.

The hospitals included in the program are Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern and St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick. The three hospitals operate more than 600 beds in New York along the borders with Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The Nashville-based Aegis Health Group is a business development company for hospitals that specializes in the employer-health arena. The new agreement marks the third Bon Secours system to contract with Aegis.

As part of the program, Aegis will provide proprietary software designed to calculate a company's expected savings with projected employee health behavior changes and value-added Internet applications.

Philip Patterson, CEO of the Bon Secours Charity Health System, said the agreement includes a full-time "employer relations specialist" who will work in the hospitals and oversee the program day-to-day.

Henry Ross, president and CEO of Aegis, said Bon Secours hospitals can help local employers mitigate potential health-related claims and reduce rising healthcare costs by working with area employers to identify specific employee health risks.

"This truly makes the hospital and employers allies in their quest for affordable, accessible quality healthcare," said Ross.
