NY docs rewarded for serving needy

By Chelsey Ledue

NEW YORK – The state of New York is accepting applications for Doctors Across New York, a new $6.9 million loan repayment and practice support program for doctors to practice in designated physician shortage areas.

Physicians, prospective medical school graduates, and other health-care providers are urged to apply to the program, Gov. David Paterson said.

The loan repayment program provides up to $150,000 in repayment of educational debt for a five-year service obligation in an underserved rural or inner-city area. The practice support program provides up to $100,000 in funding in support practices over two years for providing medical services in an underserved area.
