In week nine of open enrollment, the numbers for those signing up or renewing health insurance coverage grew by less than 100,000, a low figure compared to previous weeks.
About 8.6 million consumers have signed-up for health plans through the Healthcare.gov platform since November 1, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The week prior, CMS said more than 8.5 million people had enrolled or renewed coverage.
During week 9, from December 27 to Jan. 2, 83,297 consumers made plan selections, according to CMS. The agency did not give a breakdown this week on the number of new consumers gaining coverage versus those who are renewing coverage.
Since November 1, a total of 8.6 million consumers have enrolled or renewed their plans. Figures released by CMS last week showed an estimated six million people had renewed plans and 2.5 million were newly-insured.
The deadline to enroll for February 1 coverage is Friday, Jan. 15.
"As the holiday season ends and people across the country set goals for a healthier 2016, we're making sure they understand that there is still time to sign-up for quality and affordable health coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplaces," said Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell.
CMS has been releasing weekly open enrollment snapshots of the Healthcare.gov platform, which is used by the federally-facilitated marketplaces and state partnership marketplaces, as well as some state-based marketplaces.
