The Greater Hazleton Health Alliance has saved nearly $500,000 in nine months by leveraging Broadlane’s supply chain services at its facilities.
The Hazleton, Pa.-based GHHA spends approximately $18 million on supply expenses at its facilities, which include the 150-bed Hazleton General Hospital, Hazleton Health & Wellness Center, Hazleton General Home Care and several associated physician practices.
GHHA CEO Jim Edwards said the health system leverages a portfolio of consumable supplies, equipment, pharmaceuticals and purchased services from the Dallas-based GPO. Using a client portal, GHHA can access contracts, view actionable informatics reports and download training materials online.
“During a time of limited operating budgets, we were seeking a solution that could not only deliver supply savings but also streamline supply chain processes,” said Edwards. “We’re so pleased with the savings and improvements we’ve seen to date.”
GHHA also uses supply chain management tools like an e-commerce exchange to automate and manage transactions between GHHA facilities and suppliers.
“We are proud to be working with Greater Hazleton Health Alliance as their strategic supply chain partner,” said Tom Sherry, chief operating officer at Broadlane. “Many hospitals and health systems like Greater Hazleton Health Alliance are currently seeking innovative and effective cost-saving solutions.”
Sherry said Broadlane's offerings include supply chain management, clinical and financial analytics, purchasing portfolio management, workforce management and consulting services.
