Pennsylvania hospital plans $3M renovation

By Richard Pizzi

A southwestern Pennsylvania hospital is planning a $3 million renovation that will include expanding its emergency room and creating a new specialized surgical care area.

Cindy Cowie, chief executive officer of Southwest Regional Medical Center in Waynesburg, Penn., told the Associated Press that the hospital's revitalization in recent years means it must expand in order to continue providing quality care to people in the region.

A $1.5 million grant from Pennsylvania's Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program will pay for the expansion. The behavioral healthcare services area will also be expanded.

Cowie said the hospital is aiming to begin construction on the first phase after the Christmas holiday season.
