Philadelphia healthcare system inaugurates re-branding initiative

By Richard Pizzi

Frankford Hospital, a three-hospital healthcare system in the Philadelphia region, has changed its name to Aria Health as it expands its clinical programs and services.

“As Frankford Hospital, we have been a premier healthcare system serving the northeast Philadelphia and Bucks County community for more than a century,” said Roy A. Powell, president and CEO of Aria Health. “We believe our new name offers us a fresh, regional brand approach to continue providing advanced medicine and personal care to a wide variety of communities well into the future.”

A 477-bed health system, Aria Health employs more than 4,000 and includes three acute care hospitals, two in northeast Philadelphia (Frankford and Torresdale) and one in Langhorne, in Bucks County, Penn., as well as two outpatient centers in northeast Philadelphia and a network of primary and specialty care physician offices.

According to George Voegele, chairman of Aria Health’s board of directors, the name "Aria" was chosen intentionally to refer to a piece of music written for one voice with orchestral accompaniment.

"As the literal definition implies, much like an orchestra Aria Health's physicians, nurses and support staff combine their individual expertise to achieve the highest level of positive clinical outcomes," Voegele said.

In recent years, Aria Health has expanded its invasive cardiology, oncology and surgical services and is currently seeking approval to build an acute care hospital in Lower Makefield Township, in Bucks County, Penn.
