The University of California, San Francisco has received one of the largest donations in its history to build a hospital complex on its newest campus.
Charles F. Feeney, founding chairman of The Atlantic Philanthropies, has given $125 million for hospitals specializing in children's care, women's health and cancer.
The complex is part of a planned $1.68 billion medical center in Mission Bay, near downtown San Francisco, and will occupy nearly 15 acres next to UCSF's biomedical research campus.
Construction on the 289-bed project is scheduled to begin in spring 2010 and finish in 2014.
