QuadraMed adds BI to hospital registration software with InterSystems' new DeepSee product

By Healthcare Finance Staff

The QuadraMed Corporation is adding business intelligence tools to its hospital registration software through InterSystems' newly launched DeepSee technology.
InterSystems, based in Cambridge, Mass., announced the launch of its new BI software on Monday, than followed that with news that Reston, Va.-based QuadraMed would integrate DeepSee to a new hospital registration auditing and quality improvement application.

The enhanced Quadramed software will be released next year.

"Patient registration is a complex process that involves a wide range of rules. For example, hospitals file claims with multiple insurance organizations, including Medicare and Medicaid, based on information largely provided during registration," said Jim Klein, QuadraMed's senior vice president and CTO. "Each of these insurance entities can have unique, specific requirements in terms of format, allowable values and consistency of patient data. These requirements must be met in order for the hospital to receive timely payment and reduce denials for the healthcare services that are delivered."

Klein said QuadraMed had already contracted to use InterSystems' Ensemble rapid integration platform to manage the new suite's product workflow and data requirement rules. "With DeepSee, we go a major step further by making it possible to monitor and report on the operational registration process in real time," he said. "Supported by workflow capabilities, key rules and metrics designed to help hospitals improve quality are monitored so cleaner claims are routinely produced. This allows hospitals to modify data on the front end so they don't have to fix it when the claim is denied."

InterSystems officials say DeepSee allows hospital administrators to monitor data quality, throughput and backlog as well as change data rules and work assignments on the fly. The technology can also be used by supervisors in real time to identify personnel who are having problems resolving data issues and to provide them with additional training.

"We are very pleased that DeepSee enables us to add another technology dimension to our long-term partnership with QuadraMed," said Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems' vice president of strategic planning. "Their rapid adoption of DeepSee enables them to lead the way in delivering the benefits of embedded real-time BI to their customers in the healthcare sector."

"With DeepSee, you're looking at what's happening in your business while it's actually taking place and you can make the changes needed to improve the process," added Klein.
