Sentillion eyes ease, economics with launch of ExpreSSO

By Healthcare Finance Staff

ANDOVER, MA – For healthcare providers burdened with IT expenses and looking for an economical SSO solution, Sentillion has an answer: A shot of ExpreSSO.

“We’ve created a single sign-on solution, and that’s all it does,” said Paul Roscoe, Sentillion’s president of worldwide sales and marketing. “It’s available, really, for the masses.”

Company officials unveiled ExpreSSO on Monday, Sept. 10 (a similar announcement for the European market is planned for Sept. 17) and announced that it will be deployed at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, Ill. before the end of this year.

They’re touting the product as an affordable, streamlined solution for healthcare providers who are either just beginning to build their identity and access management platform or who are stretched thin in IT funding and need something that deploys quickly and easily.

Based on a centralized sign-on and authentication process, ExpreSSO is designed to be up and running in about five days and cost as little as $35 per user, according to company officials.

Founded in 1998 and based in Andover, Mass., Sentillion offers an umbrella SSO solution called Vergence, which is packaged with a user provisioning solution, context management and a wide range of identity and access management tools. Like other full-blown SSO solutions, Vergence takes a few months to implement and costs about three times as much as ExpreSSO.

“There’s a richness of offerings that (healthcare providers) value but just cannot afford,” Roscoe said of Vergence, which is being used by some 450 hospitals around the country (as well as several in Europe) and approximately 275,000 caregivers. “(ExpreSSO) gives them something that they can afford, and it’s built upon the heritage of the company.”

“Customers can start with ExpreSSO and move forwards if they want,” he added. “We see it almost as sort of an insurance policy.”

ExpreSSO’s features include an agent wizard, simplifying the generation of application connectors with a point-and-click methodology that’s based on interactive animations of each connector’s capabilities. In addition, the product offers fast-user switching, allowing new users to gain access within 4-5 seconds, strong authentication devices (allowing the use of biometrics, proximity and passive proximity devices), and an Enterprise Grace Period, which allows the organization to set a period of time during which a user can gain access to the system from any station before being required to re-authenticate.
