Survey analysis: Excessive rate hikes

By Healthcare Finance Staff

The Department of Health and Human Services has the power to publicize and review insurance premium rate hikes over 10 percent. In the past few months, many insurance companies have come under fire for excessive rate hikes. Healthcare Finance News asked its readers their opinion on HHS' rate review process.

More than half of respondents think HHS could be more aggressive. Publicly calling out insurance companies for rate hikes is not enough, according to most of our readers.

Seventeen percent think the rate review puts enough pressure on insurance companies to revise their rates, while 26 percent think the government simply should not intervene.
