Tennessee hospital signs supply chain management services deal

By Richard Pizzi

MedAssets, Inc., has reached an agreement to become the primary group purchasing organization and a technology provider for supply chain system optimization for Maury Regional Medical Center of Columbia, Tenn.

Through the agreement, Atlanta-based MedAssets will serve as the primary GPO for the health system and help Maury Regional identify opportunities where the hospital can realize further savings on supplies and pharmaceuticals using the company's tools and business intelligence technology.

MedAssets will also review the health system's clinical costs to identify additional savings opportunities.

Maury Regional already uses a number of MedAssets` revenue cycle management solutions and has been a MedAssets customer since 1985.

"We remain persistent in looking for ways to improve the level of service we provide to our community," said Robert Otwell, chief executive officer of Maury Regional Medical Center. "By finding additional opportunities to reduce our supply costs, we will be able to better position ourselves as a quality provider of healthcare to the middle Tennessee area."

Maury Regional Medical Center is a 275-bed, not-for-profit facility with a medical staff of more than 170 physicians. The hospital serves approximately 260,000 residents in southern middle Tennessee, with affiliate facilities in Spring Hill, Hohenwald, Lewisburg and Waynesboro.
