University Medical Center has received a $7.175 million grant from UnitedHealth Group and Sierra Health Service to improve healthcare services to southern Nevadans.
The five-year grant will create a community fund to improve access to vital healthcare services for uninsured and underinsured residents and help Clark County's only public, nonprofit hospital expand its preventive health initiatives.
"We are pleased that UnitedHealth recognizes UMC as an asset to the community," said Kathy Silver, UMC's CEO. "This grant will enable UMC to continue its mission of providing quality medical care to the residents of southern Nevada."
UMC provides the only Level I trauma center, Level II Pediatric Trauma and Lions Burn Care Center in the state. It is affiliated with the University of Nevada School of Medicine and serves as the state's major clinical campus.
"As a public hospital operating the only Level I Trauma Center in the state, UMC is a critical partner in boosting efforts to create a healthier Nevada," said Jonathon Bunker, chief executive officer for the southwest region of UnitedHealthcare. "We are pleased to offer our support to help UMC serve more people, particularly the underserved that face challenges in accessing affordable, quality care."
The grant is part of a $15 million commitment to the state of Nevada by Minneapolis, Minn.-based UnitedHealth Group and Sierra Health.
Sierra Health Services, Inc., and its family of companies were acquired by UnitedHealth Group on Feb. 25.
